DISE is excited to welcome Cre Rasberry to the board of directors beginning in 2021! She currently serves as Director of Events at Conference USA and joined the DISE board in January as part of our Partnerships committee.

To get to know Cre, we asked her a few questions about her professional experience and the DFW sports industry.

What was your first job? What was your first job in the sports/entertainment industry?

My first job was as a Communications Assistant at the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation. After being a Sports Marketing Intern at LSU for 3 years, I knew I was in the right industry. During my time at the GNOSF, we hosted the 2012 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four, 2013 Super Bowl, 2013 NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Four, and the R+L Carrier’s New Orleans Bowl annually. I learned so much from my time there and was able to really showcase my strengths.

What is one piece of advice that you'd give to someone looking to get started in our industry?

Be flexible, put yourself out there, and build relationships. Having trouble getting an internship or getting your foot in the door? Volunteer for events and games, get to know the staff. Once you land an internship, don’t just stay in your office/bullpen. Get to know your co-workers, go to lunch with them, show your personality, and most importantly, work hard. Be proactive. Take ownership of projects. If you can’t find anything to do, create something. See a problem and solve it. Check with your boss to see if you can ask anyone else in the office if they need help. Your reputation is everything. (Sorry, this is way more than one piece of advice!)

What are you excited about for the future of our industry here in Dallas?

The population growth in the DFW area! More people = more talent, more fans. More companies = more support for our programs and our local community. Each event stimulates the local economy here including small businesses, which builds a strong economy.

What is one new thing related to your job/role/business that you learned during the COVID-19 pandemic?

As the Director of Events for Conference USA, my role was severely impacted due to COVID-19. Since most of my events were cancelled, I had to find ways to support our team. I had to go back to my intern days when I reached out to other departments to find ways to help.
